Barbara Seelig Brown

Barbara Seelig Brown is a cookbook author, culinary educator, food columnist and nutritionist. She also has another mission - taking the mystery out of the culinary arts.

"I want the home cook to walk into the kitchen at 6 p.m. and fix dinner in a breeze, then sit down at the table with the family," she says. "In the amount of time that it takes to order out and pick up a meal, you can be home preparing dinner. I would rather be at home in my bunny slippers sipping wine and eating a home-cooked meal than waiting in a takeout line."

Barbara wants to show people how they can enjoy the pleasures of stress-free cooking while creating great tasting healthy dishes. To that end, she has written her first cookbook, titled Stress Free Cooking (Wimmer Cookbooks). Her book provides guidelines on how to select the correct cookware, get the most out of your kitchen's gadgets, stock a pantry, and create the right environment for preparing healthful meals. Barbara's recipes are clear, direct and uncomplicated, and she has received enthusiastic endorsements from those who have purchased her cookbook.

"Barbara's first cookbook is long overdue. She sounded the wake-up call for healthy, delicious and beautiful food," says Suzanne Hoffman, owner of the Kitchen Shoppe in Carlisle, Pa.

"Barbara's book has all the easy-does-it tips," says Robert Rastelli, food writer for The Star-Ledger of Newark. "Her book is the answer we've been waiting for."

A large part of Barbara's fervor for food is interacting with people. She is currently the president of the New York Association of Culinary Professionals (NYACP) and she conducts a series of cooking classes at hospitals and cooking studios throughout New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Her "Cooking for a Healthy Heart" series is sponsored by the Italian food distributor Colavita. Barbara uses Colavita Olive Oil as the primary ingredient in healthful meals. As a cooking instructor, Barbara has taught thousands of people in New Jersey and Philadelphia the art of stress-free, healthful cooking. "Barbara's recipes are the answer to simple, colorful and tasty healthy eating," says Jan O'Brien, a registered nurse at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.

Through her business, Lifestyle Designs, Barbara shares her passion for food. Whether it's developing recipes, teaching cooking classes, facilitating corporate team building cooking events, acting as a personal chef, reviewing restaurants and cookbooks, or contributing to corporate clients' newsletters, her focus is on showing people how they can enjoy the pleasures of stress-free cooking while creating great tasting healthy dishes.

"Barbara Seelig Brown is the picture of cool, calm and collected," says Pat Mack, the food editor of The Record of Hackensack.

Barbara studied Nutrition & Exercise Science at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison and The College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station and she earned a certificate from the American Heart Association in Nutrition. Her involvement in professional organizations includes serving as the current president of the New York Association of Culinary Professionals (NYACP), a member in good standing of The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP), and a past board member of The American Heart Association. She is also certified through The Aerobics & Fitness Association of America in Aerobics, Step Aerobics, and Weight & Resistance Training.

Barbara also writes a weekly column, "Healthy Lifestyles," for Recorder Newspapers in Morris, Hunterdon and Somerset counties and is a contributor to Cooking Light Magazine. You can e-mail Barbara at barbaraseeligbrown@verizon.net.

Cookbook Author and Food Columnist Barbara Seelig Brown is Named Spokeswoman for Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Linden, NJ (February 21, 2003) - Barbara Seelig Brown -- cookbook author, culinary educator, food columnist and nutritionist – has been selected as a spokeswoman for Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the most widely sold Italian extra virgin olive oil in the United States.

Barbara, the president of the New York Association of Culinary Professionals (NYACP), conducts a series of cooking classes at hospitals and cooking studios throughout New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Her “Cooking for a Healthy Heart” series is sponsored by Colavita USA and Barbara uses Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil as the primary ingredient in the healthful meals she prepares. Barbara’s recipes will also be featured on the Colavita Web site, www.Colavita.com.

“We are delighted to have formed this partnership with Barbara,” said John Profaci, Jr., director of marketing at Colavita USA. “Because of her superb background as a nutritionist and food columnist, as well as her unquestioned integrity, Barbara is the perfect spokeswoman for Colavita.”

Extra virgin olive oil is replacing butter, margarine and other fats in cooking. Olive oil contributes to lowering cholesterol levels and protects arteries. Research shows olive oil has antioxidant activity and helps curb high insulin and blood sugar levels that destroy arteries.

Barbara’s involvement with Colavita coincides with February as American Heart Month, as designated by the American Heart Association. The association emphasizes healthy eating habits as an important step in combating coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States.

In an effort to show people how they can enjoy the pleasures of stress-free cooking while creating great tasting healthy dishes, Barbara has written her first cookbook, titled Stress Free Cooking (Wimmer Cookbooks). Her book provides guidelines on how to select the correct cookware, get the most out of your kitchen’s gadgets, stock a pantry, and create the right environment for preparing healthful meals.
